The newly appointed Minister of the Ministry of Rural Development and Resilience of the Southwest State of Somalia, Hon. Mohamud Mohamed Kheyre, officially assumed office following a formal handover from the former Minister of the Ministry. The handover ceremony marked a smooth transition of leadership and reflected the government’s commitment to continuity, stability, and the strengthening of rural development and resilience efforts across Southwest State of Somalia.

The Minister of the Ministry of Rural Development and Resilience of the Southwest State of Somalia, Hon. Mohamud Mohamed Kheyre, today took part in the weekly Thursday meeting chaired by the leadership of the Southwest State of Somalia. The meeting focused on key government priorities and ongoing efforts aimed at strengthening coordination, improving public service delivery, and advancing overall development initiatives in Southwest State.

📍 Afgooye District | EU–Somalia TAPF The Ministry of Rural Development and Resilience (MORDR) of the Southwest State of Somalia has continued its second day of stakeholder consultations aimed at supporting the development of the Ministry’s legal framework and the Southwest Rural Resilience Plan (RRP). The consultation brought together community members, pastoralists, local leaders, and other stakeholders to discuss key priorities for strengthening rural resilience and sustainable development. Discussions focused on agriculture, livestock, natural resource management, infrastructure and markets, social cohesion, local government services, women and youth inclusion, as well as early warning systems and disaster risk reduction (DRR). The engagement provided an important opportunity for communities to share their needs, challenges, and recommendations, helping to shape sustainable solutions that enhance resilience, improve livelihoods, and promote inclusive development across Southwest State. The Minister recently met with the USAID team in Nairobi to discuss collaborative initiatives focused on rural development, recovery, and resilience. “This partnership is a significant step forward in our mission to build a prosperous and sustainable future for our rural communities,” the Minister stated. “We look forward to working with USAID to achieve our shared goals.” The partnership will support a range of projects aimed at strengthening rural communities in Southwest State, including efforts to improve agricultural productivity and access to essential services. “By combining our expertise and resources, we believe we can make a meaningful impact,” said the USAID representative. The announcement has been welcomed by local leaders, who see this as an opportunity to drive positive change in rural areas.
