Tawakal Township is located in the Southwest State of Somalia. It is bordered by Garasbaley to the south, Dayniile to the east, Balcad to the north, and Afgooye to the west. The township covers approximately 40 square kilometers and consists of flat terrain suitable for agriculture and pastoralism. Tawakal is accessible through seven main roads, which connect it to neighboring regions, including Dayniile, Garasbaley, Ceelasha Biyaha, Lafiole, Afgooye, Owgooye, and Ceel Shaale.

Demographic Overview

Tawakal is home to an estimated 17,000 households distributed across 35 villages. The community is ethnically diverse, consisting of clans such as Hilibi Darandole, Wacdaan, Wadalaan, Galadi, Jareerwayne, Abgaal, Murusade, Habargidir, Shiikhaal, Gaaljecel, Raxanwayn, Garre, and Jiido. Agriculture and livestock farming are the primary livelihoods of the population.

Economic Activities

Tawakal’s economy is predominantly agricultural, with residents engaging in small-scale farming and livestock rearing. The community also participates in local trade, though economic opportunities remain limited. Agricultural activities are supported by the availability of water from four boreholes and a canal connected to the Shabelle River.
